The healthcare system has been evolving over a long period of time. And, it seems, this evolution has been picking up speed given the rapid advancements we have experienced over the last few decades. Part of this evolution has been the application of information technologies to help healthcare organizations and human caregivers become more effective and efficient.

As we continue to move into a future that is driven by automation and artificial intelligence, it is important to remember these tools are available to human healthcare professionals to aid in their decision making. Healthcare is complex and involves the complexities of a wide array of complex patient populations, communities and other stakeholders. Those who are agile and can apply what is learned from information technologies for both the business and caring sides of health.
But, vigilance is needed by the humans to ensure that the artificial intelligence is accounting for the complexities of individual patients and unique care needs to keep all patients safe.
