I'm somethimes asked about how physicians use social media and usually share some of the examples I"ve seen. But, there is a great article in HemOnc Today that goes into a little more detail and is worth reading.
The article focuses on the need for guidelines and mentions those recently released by the AMA. A good resource for physicians, or any healthcare professional, wanting to go through the process for planning and managing risk is the ACHE Self-Study Program Connect, Communicate, Collaborate: Exploring New Media. I recommend that physicians look at the AMA's new guidelines, but also look at some of the examples I provide in the self-study program. At the end of the day, you need to clearly delineate the expectations and responsibilities of yourself and others involved with your social media technology.
