I just finished the Winter 2007 issue of Tulanian Magazine and the article Resuscitation: Breathing New Life Into Post-Katrina Health Care. It describes what was wrong, presents some options and acknowledges the role of health information technology! I really liked the part about bringing healthcare out of the huge limestone building (Charity Hospital) and down to the street and the people. I also love the fact that Louisiana's Health Care Redesign is a collaborative and pray that they do it 'rite!
Another recent article on the subject appeared in HHN Magazine and was appropriately titled Louisiana's Second Chance. One of the sub headings was "Like Changing a Tire at 60 Miles Per Hour" and it aptly describes what happens when a community isn't constantly monitoring and responding to environmental changes. In the case of Charity Hospital, the responding is directly linked to the State of Louisiana!
Louisiana.... please keep up the effort... for the sake of my family and friends across the state!
