Louisiana will have a new VA hospital in New Orleansand it is much needed. The new facility is in the same neighborhood and close to the rest of the medical school/inner city healthcare hub.
It looks to be a beautiful and well designed facility.

Actually, the proposed hospital is not in the same neighborhood.
Instead of replacing the facility in the Central Business District, the new facility actually led to the needless destruction of scores of occupied homes in a national historic district.
The hospital may be needed, but the highly destructive and ill-chosen site is totally inappropriate.
Additionally, it's poorly designed because it's low-rise and suburban in design, which is also inappropriate for the urban New Orleans setting. It necessitates a much larger footprint than would otherwise be necessary with a more vertical design.

Thanks for the additional information! This is of concern, especially taking over occupied homes. It would be great if we could have a response from the New Orleans VA here.

The current issue of Tulanian Magazine has some nice stories about the neighborhood and move. I'm sorry for the disruption to those who had moved back into their homes, but also think this is good for the city and region's many veterans.
