Putt-putt goes electric...
... for wheelchair players!
Wow! What a busy end of the year!!! I've had some time to unwind a little and catch my breath, so that means I have time for my blog again. (At least, until my world kicks into high gear!)
Anyway, while on a trip to Lake Tahoe after Christmas I had a chance to catch up on one of my favorite magazines Tulanian! In the Summer 2007 issue (yes, it took me that long to get to it) there is a great little article about the biomedical engineering students (at Tulane University) who developed a golf putter specially designed for wheelchair-using players. Besides the obvious that quadriplegic wheelchair users now have one additional form of recreation, I was specifically impressed that the design was in response to a request made by a local high school who opened the world's first mini-golf course designed to meet the needs of persons with disabilities - Grace King in Metairie.
I'm so proud of Tulane these days and their leadership in the community. Now, I'm so proud of Grace King (even though I attended another local high school) and their special education teacher, Eric Sollenberger, who didn't like the fact that some of his students where shut out from what other people could do!
What will they think of next?
